About Evelyn
I am a ceramic artist and educator with 30+ years of experience teaching and working with clay. I have a working and teaching studio in New Orleans that I have operated for 30 years. My teaching in the clay studio centers on youth. We build community, individual skills, ownership and pride ourselves on best studio practices, the kids and I.
I have taught all over New Orleans, headed up youth ceramic art exhibitions and mentored many a kid up through adulthood with skill-building, humor, fun and support.
I have had 6 or 7 foster children live in my home, most briefly, some longer, but all expressed their share of trauma experience and attachment disruption. I too have had my share of life’s difficulties. Art-making and experiencing the flow of creativity in my studio has been a major source of inspiration for me as well as working with youth whose vitality, humor and downright grit has shaped me. My own art making as well as fostering children in my home and teaching youth brought me to coaching.
I am a practitioner of Yoga, as taught by Patanjali. Yoga is concerned with autonomy, a place for everyone at the table and the need to stand up to ensure that. Sometimes that standing up, that fidelity to autonomy while also remaining open to everyone having that option, requires grit. The grit required in art-making, in being a yoga practitioner, a parent and educator is also required of a coach. I bring these values to my coaching.
